JIM MORRISON, O.D., F.A.A.O.

The Heart of America Contact Lens Society (HOACLS) Vision Service Award is presented annually to an individual or group who exhibits extraordinary dedication and untiring service to the profession of Optometry. The 2010 honoree is no exception. The Board of Directors of the HOACLS is proud to present the 2010 Vision Service Award to Dr. Jim Morrison of Colby, KS.

A graduate of the University of Kansas and Southern College of Optometry, his list of accomplishments are impressive and wide ranging. In service to his community of Colby, Dr. Morrison has been a children’s advocate, a founder of several children’s organizations, a teacher at the community college, a civic club leader, and a business leader as well.

In service to his profession, Dr. Morrison has served the Kansas Optometric Association as chairman of a number of different committees. He has been a contributor, consultant, and advisor to a number of Optometric groups and organizations. He is the past recipient of the Kansas Optometric Association’s Legislator of the Year award, as well as being named Kansas Optometrist of the Year in 1999.

Dr. Morrison currently serves as a member of the Kansas State House of Representatives. He has served not only his constituents, but also the Optometric profession. Reelected eight times, he has served on and chaired many important House committees. While serving on these committees he never failed to bring his energetic enthusiasm, his natural inquisitiveness, and studious nature to provide practical solutions to complex political issues.

Always a watch dog and spokesman for Optometry’s interests and concerns, Dr. Morrison certainly exemplifies the principals for which this award is given: Uncommon dedication and untiring service to the profession of Optometry.
