Message From the President

Dr.

Welcome to the HOACLS website. We hope that you will
find our website easy
to navigate and complete with all the information you will need
to learn
more about our organization, register for our meeting, register
to be an
exhibitor or make hotel registrations for our upcoming HOACLS
Congress
February 13-15, 2009. If you have any suggestions on how we may
serve you
better, I invite you to contact me at president@hoacls.org. I
will make
every effort to insure that your questions will be answered or
your
suggestions will be considered.
As eye care professionals, we are challenged to meet the needs
of our
patients in a world where technology, insurance and new research
results can
affect our patient encounters and our optometric practices. Each
year
presents a new set of challenges. The "Heart" is a
great opportunity to
update our skills, increase our knowledge, and renew our friendships
with
colleagues.
Your Heart of America Board of Directors works daily to monitor
the changes
in our optometric world. The primary goal of the "Heart" is
to continue as
one of the premier optometric meetings in the country by effectively
presenting primary care, contact lenses, practice management,
staff
education and technology education in a single weekend. We are
in the
midst of planning the 2009 edition of the "Heart" and
expect our 48th year
to offer you an outstanding educational experience. With top
flight
education, the most extensive Exhibit Hall in Middle America,
a great
location in the Hyatt Regency Crown Center Hotel, the Heart has
it all.
The Heart also has a commitment to the education of our future
colleagues. Over the years, the Heart has given away nearly $300,000 in scholarships
to worthy Optometry students. Most recently, the Heart agreed to be a contributing partner to the Partnership Foundation for Optometric
Education, which allows the Heart to donate one dollar per hour for each
optometrist registered to receive paid continuing education. We believe our
investment in the foundation has solidified our commitment to the education
of our future colleagues by establishing resources to be used by the
next generation of students and educators. We would like to challenge
other meetings to do the same.
Mark your calendars for February 13-15, 2009 and prepare to
experience the Heart for all it has to offer. I look forward to seeing you in
Kansas City next February.
For the Heart,
Joni K. LaFerla, OD
President
